How to Pay for Flights with Crypto in 2026: Airline Gift Cards Explained

Search any airline's payment page and you will find cards, PayPal, sometimes Apple Pay — never a crypto wallet. Yet thousands of flights are paid for with Bitcoin every month, and the mechanism is almost boringly simple: airlines sell gift cards, and gift cards can be bought with crypto. You buy the airline's own gift card on GiftQubes with Bitcoin, USDT, USDC or any of 25+ coins and networks, the code lands on your order page within minutes, and you apply it at the airline's checkout. The airline sees a gift card payment. Your miles, status, seat and change rights are exactly what they would be with a bank card.

Why this works better than it sounds

Airline gift cards are "closed-loop" payment instruments: the airline issues them, the airline redeems them, and nothing in between touches a bank. That is why they can be bought with crypto at all — GiftQubes converts your coin into the card, the card carries the value. It also explains the rules you will meet: the card belongs to one airline's store in one country, it pays for what that airline decides, and the balance lives with the airline.

Three practical consequences follow. First, book direct: the card is applied on the airline's own website or app, almost never on a comparison site. Second, match the country: a US Delta card is for delta.com in US dollars; a British Airways voucher is for ba.com in pounds. Third, read the limits: most cards cover the fare and the ticket taxes of a direct booking, and most exclude mileage purchases, holiday packages and in-flight purchases. GiftQubes writes each airline's rule on its card page, in the airline's own terms.

The step-by-step

  1. Price the flight first. Know the fare before you buy the card, so you buy the right value. A $500 card at the Qube Price costs less than $500; a fare below the card leaves a balance on the card with most airlines.
  2. Buy the airline's card on GiftQubes. Pick the region that matches the store you book in, choose the value, press Buy Now and pay in the coin you hold. The live coin amount is locked for the payment window.
  3. Open the code on your order page. It arrives within minutes of the payment confirming on-chain, and by e-mail.
  4. Apply it at the airline's checkout. Choose "Gift card" as the form of payment, enter the number and PIN or code, add more cards if the airline allows, pay any difference with a card.
  5. Keep the code. Refunds of a cancelled ticket usually return to the gift card, and an unused balance stays for the next trip.

Airline by airline

Delta Air Lines

Up to three gift cards per booking on delta.com or in the Fly Delta app; covers fare, taxes and fees of Delta-marketed flights; never expires. Not for Delta Vacations, SkyMiles purchases or in-flight purchases. Delta gift card →

United Airlines

Several cards per booking on united.com and in the app; covers fare, taxes and fees; never expires. Not for MileagePlus purchases, United Vacations or United Club. United gift card →

American Airlines

Up to eight cards per booking on aa.com — the most generous — covering fare, taxes and fees; never expires. Not for AAdvantage purchases, Vacations or Admirals Club. American Airlines gift card →

Southwest and JetBlue

Both accept several cards on a direct booking, cover fare and taxes, and never expire. Southwest's two free bags make a $100–$250 card go a long way on domestic trips. Southwest → · JetBlue →

British Airways, easyJet, Ryanair, Jet2

UK cards in pounds, redeemed on each airline's UK site. BA's voucher also covers BA Holidays and extras; easyJet and Ryanair vouchers cover bags and seats. All four carry a validity period (12 months from issue at the time of writing), so buy them when the trip is in sight. All airline cards →

Emirates, Etihad, flydubai

Gulf carriers' cards are issued per country store; the card page says which. They cover fares and extras bought on the airline's site and are among the biggest savings on GiftQubes because long-haul fares reach the top Qube Price band. Emirates →

Air India, Vistara, SpiceJet

Indian cards in rupees for the airline's own booking channel, combinable with card or UPI. Air India →

When you do not know the airline yet

Buy an open card. AirlineGift is exchanged on airlinegift.com for the gift card of any of 300+ airlines; Flightgift books flights on 400+ airlines directly from the card. Both suit gifts and unplanned trips, and both reach carriers that sell no gift card of their own.

The mistakes to avoid

  • Buying the wrong region. The most common support ticket. The region is written on the selector before you pay — match it to the store you book in.
  • Booking through an agency. Expedia will not take a Delta gift card. Book on delta.com.
  • Expecting the card to cover a package. Vacation packages are usually excluded; buy a booking-site card for those.
  • Letting a UK voucher expire. BA, easyJet, Ryanair and Jet2 vouchers have validity windows; US cards generally do not.

Every airline card on GiftQubes shows the region, the price and the airline's own rules before you pay, and our support team is in the chat 24/7 if a code misbehaves. Start with the airline hub.
